2 DIY Easy Wedding Hairstyles for the Bride on a Budget

diy bridal wedding hairstyles

If your wedding dress has an elaborate neckline adorned with stones, beads or roses, an updo hairstyle will complement your gown beautifully.

For women with medium-length or long hair, a French twist or bouffant style updo is the perfect touch of elegance for a formal wedding or casual outdoor affair.

For brides on a budget who can’t afford a pricey salon visit, you can coil and twist your hair into an easy updo for your special walk down the aisle.

Wrapped Wedding Ponytail

Step 1

Spray your freshly-washed hair with three to four squirts of setting lotion or volumizing spray. Coat your damp strands with the product using a wide-tooth comb. Flip your hair upside down and work the product from the roots to the tips with your fingers.

Step 2

Blow-dry hair using a large round brush. Brush hair into every direction until your hair is completely dry. If you have longer hair, bend over so that your hair hangs upside down to dry your hair evenly.

Step 3

Add curls to your hair using a 1 ½ inch curling iron. Starting at the forehead create large ringlets until your hair is completely filled with curls. Comb your hair with your fingers to release curls and create volume.

Step 4

Separate your hair into three sections. Pull the center section into a low ponytail using a brush and a covered elastic. Coil the hair from the ponytail around the base to create a low bun. Keep the bun in place with four or five U-shaped hairpins.

Step 5

Twist and wrap the remaining two sections around the bun. If you want more volume around the crown, tease the top sections with a rattail comb before crisscrossing these sections around the lower ponytail section.

Step 6

Pull a few wisps around your hairline to add a sexy and tousled look to your wedding updo.

Modern Wedding Chignon

Step 1

Wash and condition hair with a product made specifically for your hair type. Apply a dollop of texturizing mousse or gel to your damp strands. Comb hair with a wide-tooth comb to distribute product evenly.

Step 2

Dry your naturally curly or wavy hair with a diffuser on a low setting. For hair that is naturally straight or thin, dry hair with a blow dryer and a round-bristled brush. Add large curls to your hair using 2- to 3-inch curling iron.

Step 3

Bend over and flip your hair upside down. Apply hairspray to dry hair to add texture and prevent hairpins from sliding out of the updo.

Step 4

Release curls with your fingers to add volume and body. Gather and twist hair into a small ball at the nape of the neck. Secure the ball shape with U-shaped hairpins. Spritz hair with a glossing product or spray to add a dose of unexpected shine.

Tips

Spray hair with a medium-hold hairspray to ensure your classic updo stays put during the wedding ceremony and reception.
To vary your wedding updo, wind the hair more loosely or more tightly, or pull a few shorter strands loose around the ears or hairline.
